You've heard about murder mystery dinners. Maybe a friend went and won't stop talking about it. Maybe you spotted us on Instagram and thought: what actually happens at one of these? Here's the honest, complete answer.
What Is a Murder Mystery Dinner?
A murder mystery dinner is a live-action interactive experience where guests play characters in an unfolding crime story — all while enjoying a multi-course meal. Unlike passive dinner theatre, everyone at the table is a participant. You're not watching a show; you're inside it.
At Let's Nail It, Bangalore's only murder mystery supper club, every evening is built around an original story written specifically for our space on MG Road. Each guest receives a character, secret objectives, and just enough information to be dangerous. One person at the table is the killer. You don't know who. Neither do they — until the right moment.
Before You Arrive: What You Receive
A few days before your booking, we'll send you a character brief. This covers:
- Your character's name and backstory — who you are in this story
- Your relationship to the other guests — who you trust, who you don't
- Your secret objectives — what you're trying to accomplish (or conceal)
- Any costume suggestions — optional, but encouraged
You don't need to memorise a script. Think of the brief as a starting point, not a constraint. The best players use it to improvise, not recite.
Arriving at the Venue
We host evenings at our private dining space on MG Road, Bangalore. Doors open 30 minutes before the start time — arrive on time, because the story begins the moment you walk in. The room is already in character: dim lighting, a table set for intrigue, and guests in various states of knowing what they've signed up for.
You'll be welcomed by our host, who will run the evening, manage the pacing, and — crucially — make sure no one feels lost or uncomfortable. First-timers are in good hands.
"The room goes quiet when the first body drops. Then everyone starts looking at each other differently."
How the Evening Unfolds
Act I — The Setup
The story begins. Characters are introduced, tensions are established, and a crime occurs. Your host sets the scene and gives everyone their first round of information. This is when you start paying attention to everyone at the table — because someone here is lying to you.
Act II — Investigation
This is the heart of the evening. Between courses, guests interrogate each other, form alliances, exchange clues, and attempt to separate the liars from the truthful. Evidence is revealed in rounds. What you do with it is entirely up to you.
You can be straightforward, theatrical, strategic, or completely chaotic. There is no wrong way to play — only more and less fun ways.
Act III — The Accusation
Before the final course, each guest makes their formal accusation. Who did it? How? Why? You'll need to commit to a theory. The killer gets one last chance to maintain their cover. Then the truth is revealed.
The Food
The dinner at Let's Nail It is a proper multi-course meal — not a side detail. We serve a curated menu designed around each evening's theme, with welcome cocktails on arrival. Dietary requirements are accommodated when flagged at the time of booking.
Eating, drinking, and playing happen simultaneously. The pacing of the story is built around the courses — the investigation deepens as the meal progresses, and the final reveal lands just before dessert.
Tips for First-Timers
- Read your character brief before you arrive. Even a five-minute skim makes a difference.
- Lie freely. Your character's secrets are yours to protect.
- Ask questions constantly. Other characters often reveal more than they intend to.
- Don't worry about being "good" at it. There's no performance standard. The goal is to have a story to tell afterwards.
- Dress the part if you can. Costume isn't required, but it instantly raises the atmosphere for the whole table.
Who Is It Right For?
Murder mystery dinners work brilliantly for almost any group: couples on a date night, groups of friends celebrating a birthday, colleagues who want a team outing that isn't a quiz night, and anyone who's ever watched a crime drama and thought I would have solved that faster.
It works less well if someone in the group is deeply reluctant to participate — the experience depends on everyone being willing to play. If you're booking for a mixed group, the gentle pre-read of the character brief usually does the convincing for us.
Ready to Take a Seat at the Table?
Our evenings are limited to a small number of guests — book early to secure your spot.
Book via WhatsAppFrequently Asked Questions
Do I need acting experience?
Absolutely not. You're playing yourself-in-a-costume, not performing a monologue. Guests who've never done anything like this routinely leave as the evening's best players.
How many people are at each dinner?
We keep our evenings intentionally intimate — small enough that everyone is involved, large enough that the mystery has real depth. Check our Supper Club page for current capacity details.
Can I book for a private group?
Yes. We host private murder mystery events in Bangalore for birthdays, corporate teams, anniversaries and any occasion that deserves something genuinely memorable.
What if I figure out who did it early?
Keep it to yourself. You still have to prove it — and you might be wrong.
